Words and sounds colliding — future funk and spoken word blended into what became the deep house sound, by one of its original 1990 architects. Philadelphia-born and Newark-raised, Johnny Dangerous came up through jazz band and as a drum major in the eighties, then held a residency at Club America from 1989 alongside Kerri Chandler and a generation of Jersey DJs. His first Foremost Poets single, Reasons To Be Dismal?, arrived on Nu Groove in 1990; MoonRaker followed on Sound-Men On Wax in 1998 and still turns up in big rooms worldwide. His vocal acapellas are among the most sampled in dance music, used as DJ tools by everyone from Funk Master Flex to David Guetta.
