Character, charisma and humour in house music — musicality and craft over mindless loops, which is the brief his AVOTRE label runs on. It started with an Akai MPC-2000 bought at sixteen; at twenty-one he left home for Berlin, took a studio internship and spent six years making jingles and ad music before a demo reached Radio Slave, who put out his first record on REKIDS. Three years engineering for Tiefschwarz's Souvenir followed, including work on their remixes for Richie Hawtin and Grace Jones. Records since have run from Cocoon and Defected to Desolat and Supernature, plus a remix for Depeche Mode. Asked to describe his own style, he says he doesn't really know how.
