A hybrid of techno and house built from reworked riffs, classic soul and jazz samples and low-slung bass — with drum programming that pointedly refuses to push the tempo the way everything around it does. Kenny Dixon Jr worked Detroit record stores through the mid-nineties, one of them owned by Blake Baxter, and held a residency at the Outcast Motorcycle Club under the name House. First records came on Planet E; Silentintroduction gathered years of 12-inch-only work into one of the most celebrated albums of the late nineties. He refuses interviews, and never lets anyone forget where the genre came from.
